A working memory exercise used in neuropsychological assessment
How It Works
You will see a series of numbers appear one at a time. After the last number disappears, enter the sequence using the number pad.
The sequences start short and get longer. The test ends when you miss two in a row at the same length.
Choose a mode:
ForwardRepeat numbers in the same order
BackwardRepeat numbers in reverse order

ADHD and Working Memory: Working memory — the ability to hold information in mind while using it — is one of the most consistently affected cognitive abilities in ADHD. Digit span is a direct measure of this. Most adults score between 5 and 8 digits forward. A lower span doesn't mean something is wrong — it's a window into how your working memory works.

About your score: Digit span is a measure of short-term verbal working memory. An average adult scores 5-8 digits forward and 4-6 digits backward. People with ADHD often score in the lower end of these ranges, especially on the backward version (which requires mental manipulation). This is a single exercise — not a clinical assessment. Results should never be used to self-diagnose.
Based on the Digit Span subtest from the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale tradition. Public domain paradigm. No data stored or sent.
